Collective Worship

At our school, Collective Worship is a time when we come together as a community to share and build on our school’s Christian values. In Collective Worship, we have plenty of opportunities for spiritual development and developing a sense of awe and wonder. We have an opportunity to worship God, think about our own beliefs and understand those of others. We also welcome parents and members of our local community to our collective worship which can be held in the school hall, a classroom, outdoors or at St Helen’s, our local church.

Our collective worship is based around the school values, the liturgical calendar and rooted in the Christian faith.

Throughout the year we welcome many visitors to lead our Collective Worship, including our local vicar Revd David Moss, Thornbury Baptist Church and the ‘Open the Book’ Assembly team representing the local Anglican and Methodist churches.

You can find out more in our Collective Worship Policy.

What is ‘Open the Book’?

Open the Book is a project which offers primary school children an opportunity to hear the major stories of the Bible, from a team of Christians from local churches, who present the stories during assemblies/acts of Collective Worship. Each presentation takes around 10-15 minutes and can be incorporated into a wider school assembly, or can stand alone. It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional, but optional year of material based on Christian Values.

The children really look forward to the ‘Open the Book’ sessions and play a full part in acting the stories out!

Collective Worship at St Helen’s Church

We look to visit St Helen’s church for special events, such as Harvest, Christmas, Easter and Moving on (summer). These are always special occasions for us.
