Value of the Term

At St Helen’s, we focus on a value each term as a school community together. Over a two year period therefore we work through a number of important values, based on the Christian faith, but accessible to everyone.

Our value for Term 2 is ‘compassion‘.

Our current school value is ‘Compassion’. In collective worship we are thinking how we can show compassion and kindness to one another. We have been recognising when friends at school need us to listen and act with compassion. We are also remembering how nations show compassion to other nations at times of disaster or need by sending money and volunteers to help.

To put this value into practice, we will be doing a number of things, including:

  • Collecting ‘shoeboxes’ full of Christmas presents to send to children around the world who might otherwise not have anything to open this Christmas
  • Raising money for ‘Children in Need’ and having a ‘dress in the colours of the rainbow day’
  • Attempting ’1000 Acts of Kindness’ in the week commencing Monday 13th November. We worked out that if all of the children and staff at St Helen’s made one extra kind action from Monday to Friday, we would as a community do more than 1,000 acts of kindness together.

Activities for families to do at home:

If you have an opportunity to explore this value together as a family there are some ideas, facts and challenges here.
